Timo Glock excluded after “seriously obstructing” Edoardo Mortara
BMW driver Timo Glock has been excluded from qualifying for Race 2 at Zandvoort after the incident in which the German blocked Mercedes’ Edoardo Mortara during the session.
Mortara had just blocked Glock due to a miscommunication from his team, with the BMW driver then braking right in front of the Italian in frustration, lambasting the Mercedes driver on the team radio.
The stewards found Glock responsible for seriously obstructing another driver on the track, and chose to exclude him from the qualifying results. They also fined the BMW driver 3,000 EUR for unsporting behaviour in the pit garages when he ventured down to Mortara’s pit bay.
The BMW driver will now start from the last spot of the grid, behind the Mercedes of Gary Paffett. He had qualified in fifth, and is the top BMW driver in the standings after yesterday’s victory.
Mortara was also punished for the initial block, on top of an earlier five-place grid penalty for having impeded his former Audi team-mate Jamie Green, with the stewards handing the Italian an extra five-second penalty which he’ll serve on his pit stop.
