Jamie Green tops delayed second practice at the Red Bull Ring
Jamie Green led an Audi top four in the second free practice session at the Red Bull Ring, with the championship contenders all at the top of the order.
The session experienced a 30-minute delay due to heavy fog at the track.
Green set a best lap time of 1:22.137, followed by fellow Team Rosberg driver René Rast, who was just 0.041 seconds behind. Championship leader Mattias Ekström was third, with Mike Rockenfeller, who managed to resolve yesterday’s gearbox problems, fourth, two-tenths off the pace.
Edoardo Mortara was fifth and fastest driver for Mercedes AMG, followed by team-mate and championship contender Lucas Auer, nearly three-tenths off Green’s time. Gary Paffett followed in seventh.
Audi drivers Nico Müller and Loïc Duval were next, with Mercedes’ Paul Di Resta in tenth for Mercedes, six-tenths off the pace.
The session was trouble-free, with only Paffett and Müller going wide at Turn 3, but managing to return to the track without assistance.
BMW had a difficult session in preparation for qualifying, with reigning champion Marco Wittmann their best-placed driver in 11th, seven-tenths off the pace.
Qualifying for Race 1 is scheduled for 11:40 CET.
