Mike Rockenfeller fastest in second free practice at Hockenheim
Mike Rockenfeller continued yesterday’s form, leading a 1-2-3-4 result for Audi Sport in the second free practice session at Hockenheim, finishing ahead of Jamie Green, Nico Müller and Mattias Ekström.
Audi gave no chances to their rivals, working on qualifying setup and sending their cars on new tyres from the beginning, with the RS 5 DTMs topping the time sheets during the session, except for a brief moment half-way through, when Mercedes’ Paul di Resta stole the top spot.
Rockenfeller improved on yesterday’s pace with a lap time of 1:30.849, followed by Green, Müller and Ekström, who was three-tenths off the pace.
Di Resta was fifth, just ahead of Audi’s René Rast, with Mercedes’ Robert Wickens and Edoardo Mortara eighth and ninth.
Maxime Martin was the fastest driver for BMW Motorsport in ninth, half a second off the pace, with Mercedes’ Maro Engel completing the top ten.
Championship contenders Marco Wittmann (BMW) and Lucas Auer (Mercedes) had a difficult session, in 12th and 15th positions respectively.
Qualifying for Race 1 is scheduled for 11:45 CET.
