Misano to host historic night races
Organisers of the DTM have announced that the series will run night races for the first time during the 2018 season.
Having previously run a qualifying session in darkness back at the Nürburgring back in 2003, the series will now run race under lights when it heads to the Misano circuit in August.
The two races at the Italian circuit will get underway at 22:20hrs local time, partly because of the high temperatures that are often found at the venue during the summer months.
The decision to run the races at night has also been taken because a track illumination system is already in place.
Aside from Misano, all race on the calendar will get underway at 13:30 CET, with the exception of the season final at Hockenheim.
Instead, that race will get underway at 15:05 as the last race of the weekend so that spectactors will be able to enter the pitlane for the final podium celebrations of the year.
In other news, and subject to confirmation by the German Motor Sport Association, the Lausitzring races will this season run on the longer Grand Prix layout.
