Gary Paffett tops morning session in second day of testing at Hockenheim

Mercedes AMG dominated the morning session as DTM testing went into a second day at Hockenheim, with Gary Paffett setting the fastest lap and leading a 1-2-3 for the Stuttgart-based manufacturer.

Paffett set a best lap of 1:32.759 at the wheel of his C63 DTM, with BMW’s rookie Joel Eriksson just 0.037 seconds off the pace.

Series returnee Daniel Juncadella finished the morning session in third place, a tenth of a second behind Paffett, despite running with a fractured collarbone.

Edoardo Mortara was fourth for Mercedes, three-tenths off the pace, followed by BMW’s Timo Glock.

Series’ newcomers Robin Frijns (Audi) and Philipp Eng (BMW) followed in their respective first day driving a DTM car, with the Austrian a second behind Paffett.

Loïc Duval was eighth for Audi Sport, followed by reigning champion René Rast, who was only able to complete 10 laps.

Testing resumes at 14:00 CET.
