René Rast tops final session at Hockenheim

Current DTM champion René Rast set the fastest lap time in today’s afternoon session at Hockenheim, wrapping up the official pre-season tests.

Rast completed 64 laps to record a best time of 1:32.459 at the wheel of his Audi RS 5 DTM, ahead of BMW drivers Timo Glock and Philipp Eng, with the Austrian three-tenths off the pace.

Lucas Auer was the fastest Mercedes driver in fourth and also the busiest on track, completing 98 laps to finish four-tenths behind the 2017 champion. Joel Eriksson was fifth for BMW.

Robin Frijns followed for Audi, ahead of the Mercedes of Paul di Resta and Pascal Wehrlein, with the Stuttgart-based manufacturer focussing on race pace. Audi driver Loïc Duval closed the classification, a second off the pace.

The next track action for the DTM takes place in three weeks’ time, with the season opener held again at the Hockenheim track from 5-7 of May.
