Timo Glock puts BMW on pole position as Joel Eriksson shines

BMW Motorsport had a better turn of events in today’s DTM qualifying session at Hockenheim, with Timo Glock taking pole position ahead of Audi’s René Rast. Series rookie Joel Eriksson was the protagonist of the session, placing his M4 DTM on the third spot of the grid.

The last two minutes were frantic on the track, with Eriksson climbing to second place, but Glock would rock the charts stealing the top spot with a time of 1:32.379, 0.208 seconds ahead of Rast.

Eriksson kept the third spot, despite Edoardo Mortara (Mercedes) climbing up to fourth, just ten thousandths behind the Swede. Mercedes drivers Lucas Auer, Paul Di Resta and Daniel Juncadella followed, with the Spaniard 0.338 seconds behind the pole position.

BMW’s Marco Wittmann was eighth, with Rockenfeller in ninth and yesterday’s winner, Gary Paffett, completing the top 10, half a second off the pace.

Mattias Ekström will start his last farewell race in the series from 19th and last on the grid. The session was largely trouble free, but Bruno Spengler (BMW) was reported to the stewards for blocking Juncadella.

The start of Race 2 is scheduled for 13:30 CET.
