Luca Engstler takes second straight TCR Asia pole

Luca Engstler secured his second pole position in a row after leading the way in qualifying for the second meeting of the TCR Asia series season at the Chang International Circuit.

Engstler, who sits second in the standings after the opening round of the year, posted a best time of 1:43.401 during the second phase of qualifying to snare pole as he headed a 1-2-3 for the Liqui Moly Team Engstler squad.

Diego Moran was second quickest but was more than four-tenths of a second behind, with current points leader Mitchell Cheah – who shared the wins with Engstler at Sepang – taking third.

The three Engstler drivers were the only ones to break the 1:44s mark during the session, with Alex Liu the best of the rest in fourth place at the wheel of his SEAT León, with Jakraphan Davee the best placed of the TCR Thailand entrants in fifth in his SEAT León DSG.

Defending Thai champion Chariya Nuya was best placed of the Honda drivers with the sixth best time, whilst the reverse grid pole for race two went to series newcomer Clement Tong.
