Robin Frijns fastest in wet second practice at the Hungaroring
Audi Sport driver Robin Frijns set the fastest lap time of the second free DTM practice session, held at the Hungaroring this morning under heavy rain.
Rain has been falling over the Hungaroring since yesterday and was particularly intense during the session, with several drivers, such as Mercedes’ Gary Paffett and Edoardo Mortara, Audi’s René Rast and BMW’s Marco Wittmann and Philipp Eng going wide at turns 3 and 7.
Frijns was fastest with a lap time of 1:56.342, followed by Wittmann, 0.175 seconds behind. Audi’s Loïc Duval was third, with standings leader Timo Glock (BMW) in fourth, half a second off the pace.
Audi’s Nico Müller was fifth, with Paffett as the fastest of the Mercedes driver in sixth, complaining about the lack of grip in the difficult conditions.
Eng followed, with fellow BMW driver Bruno Spengler next in eighth, a full second off the pace. Audi’s Jamie Green was ninth, with Mercedes’ Paul di Resta completing the top ten.
Qualifying for Race 1 is scheduled for 11:20 CET.
