Lo Sze Ho takes maiden TCR Asia victory in second Bangsean race

Lo Sze Ho came out on top of a hectic second race of the weekend on the streets of Bangsaen to secure a maiden win in the TCR Asia series.

The Maximum Racing driver came home ahead of Diego Moran and Mitchell Cheah, who made up for his retirement in the opening race to take a podium finish and reclaim the points lead.

There was drama at the start when polesitter Kelvin Wong stalled on the grid but the field behind was able to avoid his stricken SEAT, with Alex Liu taking an early lead.

Cheah and Luca Engstler soon got ahead and started to dice for the lead but it wasn’t for long after Engstler outbraked himself whilst going for position and crashed out – with Cheah then losing the lead a lap later to Lo.

Once out front, Lo started to pull away from the chasing pack with Cheah under pressure from Moran until the tenth lap when he lost out to his team-mate.

Despite a Safety Car period caused by TCR Thailand front-runner – and race one overall winner – Pattarapol Vongprai crashing out of the race, Lo was able to hold on at the front to secure the victory ahead of Moran and Cheah.

It means Cheah now leads the standings on 100 points, three ahead of Lo, with Engstler slipping back to third as a result of his DNF.

Fourth in the race was good enough to secure TCR Thailand honours for Jakaphran Davee ahead of a recovering Wong, with Nattachak Hanjitkasem and Nattanid Leewattanavaragul following behind to complete the Thai podium – the latter having dropped to the back after a spin behind the Safety Car.

TCR Asia will resume at Yeongam in Korea on 25/26 August, in the inaugural event of TCR Korea, while TCR Thailand will come to an end at Buriram on 27/28 October.
