Team Engstler to enter new Shanghai endurance event

TCR Asia Series teams and drivers champions Liqui Moly Team Engstler has become the first team to confirm an entry into the new SIC888 endurance race at the Shanghai International Circuit next month.

Current TCR Asia Series points leader and reigning TCR middle East champion Luca Engstler will be joined by multiple TCR Asia race winner Diego Moran and Engstler’s TCR Germany team-mate Theo Coicaud for the race, where the trio will share driving duties in one of the team’s Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR cars.

The 888km event will run on the same bill as the latest rounds of the TCR Asia series, where Team Engstler will look to wrap up the title for a third straight year.

“With Luca [Engstler] leading and Mitchell [Cheah] close behind, we have two drivers capable of taking out our third consecutive Drivers championship, whilst Diego as ever will be in contention for a race win as he closes in on third in the championship,” sporting director Kurt Treml explained.

“That, and securing our third Teams championship title will be our immediate focus, but once we have concluded the TCR Asia programme, we will switch our attention to the SIC888 event.”
