Paul di Resta: “Frijns ruined my race”

Mercedes-AMG’s Paul di Resta was disappointed after a very difficult day at the Hockenheim, with his car damaged after a contact with Audi’s Robin Frijns in the early stages of the race.

“Frijns destroyed my race, was a simple as that,” said di Resta to TouringCarTimes. “He had a brain fade and tried to go for something that wasn’t there. And then he had to give the position back but yeah, it was damaged. He ripped the front bumper and the steering is bent.”

“I was in the battle for P3, but, four laps before that it was when he hit me. But I don’t expect any less from him, to be honest,” added the 32-year-old.

Di Resta is second in the championship, six points behind team-mate Gary Paffett and nine ahead of today’s winner, Audi’s René Rast. Asked about his thoughts for tomorrow, the Scot said: “It’s all down to who wins the race, whoever wins the race, wins the championship. The car is quite strong, we had a strong race today and there is nothing in it to worry about. The problem is the things you cannot control, such as Philipp Eng (BMW) and Frijns.”

Mercedes-AMG will be quitting the DTM after the final race of the season on Sunday and asked about what he will do after the season, di Resta remained tight-lipped: “I know what I will do in the future, it’s already decided. But it will be announced at the right time.”
