René Rast and Audi Sport proud of runner-up spot

Audi Sport Team Rosberg driver René Rast failed to claim the 2018 DTM title but said after the season finale that he was satisfied with his position as runner-up, claiming his sixth consecutive victory in the very last race of the year.

Rast started from second on the grid and claimed the lead at the first corner. Although BMW Team RMG’s Marco Wittmann came close to the Audi driver, Rast was never under threat and headed for his seventh victory of the season, his sixth straight.

“What an incredible year, I scored six victories in a row, the first time a DTM driver has done something like this,” said Rast.

“I’m very proud of Audi Sport, my team Rosberg and myself. All the drivers at Audi had a very good relationship and a lot of team work, so that helped. The season was quite tough, as we started slow and we had the crash at Lausitzring.”

Rast and the Audi squad turned around a very difficult start of the season to a new DTM record with six consecutive victories.

“I’m very proud of what we have achieved this weekend,” said Audi Motorsport boss Dieter Gass to TouringCarTimes. “From nowhere at the beginning of the season we have turn around to six consecutive victories. It wasn’t enough to win the championship but it doesn’t matter, I’ve got nothing to regret, René performed really well, we gave it all, we won the race and it was not under our control how it came out.”
