Aston Martin team R-Motorsport granted dispensation to test during season

Aston Martin team R-Motorsport has received permission from the organisers to complete its testing programme after the start of the 2019 DTM season.

Testing during the season is otherwise prohibited, with homologation frozen since the first of April. However, R-Motorsport as newcomers have started testing late and, as such, both series promoter ITR and fellow manufacturers BMW and Audi have agreed to the dispensation.

“I have the agreement from the other two manufacturers that we can do the test during the season,” team boss Florian Kamelger told motorsport.com. “That’s very gratifying for us.”

It is yet uncertain when and where the tests will take place: “As soon as we know it, we will also communicate it, because I would first like to examine the possibilities we have discussed. We agreed on a timespan that is not immediately after Hockenheim, but of course not in the middle of the season”, added Kamelger

DTM boss Gerhard Berger agreed that the exception had to be made: “Newcomers are always welcome, so everyone is in favour. You always have to give them a fair chance to be at the top. That’s an advantage for the series.”
