Philipp Eng fastest by 39 thousands in the second free practice at Zolder
BMW Motorsport Team RBM driver Philipp Eng was the fastest driver in the second free DTM practice session this afternoon at Zolder, with WRT’s Jonathan Aberdein very close in second place.
The session took place in dry conditions, although Audi drivers reported slippery sections via the team radio.
Audi Sport Team Rosberg’s Jamie Green was the first driver to establish a reference lap time, but quickly BMW Motorsport took control of the session with Team RBM’s Sheldon Van der Linde and Eng alternating at the top of the classification.
Eng would clock the fastest lap at the end of the session, with a best lap time of 1:22.476, followed by Aberdein, the fastest Audi RS 5 DTM driver on track, just 0.039 seconds behind.
René Rast, who was fastest in the first session, finished third for Audi Sport Team Rosberg, a tenth off the pace, with Robin Frijns, from Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline, in fourth, 0.165 seconds from Eng.
The BMW Team RMG trio of by Timo Glock, Marco Wittmann and Bruno Spengler were next, with the Canadian three-tenths off the pace.
Nico Müller was eighth for Team Abt Sportsline, followed by Van der Linde and Joel Eriksson closing the top ten, six-tenths behind his team-mate at Team RBM.
Daniel Juncadella was the fastest driver for R-Motorsport in 15th place at the wheel of the Aston Martin Vantage DTM, 1.2 seconds off the pace.
Action returns tomorrow at 10:35 CEST with the qualifying session for Race 1.
