René Rast fastest in first free practice at Zolder

Audi driver René Rast was fastest in the first free practice session of the DTM weekend at Zolder in Belgium, a session that started wet but with the circuit drying up.

Rast’s best time of 1:22.941 was close to eight tenths of a seconds faster than BMW Team RMG driver Marco Wittmann who claimed second place.

Robin Frijns made it two Audis in the top three ahead of BMW driver Philipp Eng who claimed fourth position. The WRT duo of Jonathan Aberdein and Pietro Fittipaldi occupied positions five and six, separated by just 0.023 seconds.

Two Aston Martin drivers made it into the top ten with Jake Dennis in eighth position and Daniel Juncadella in ninth position, right behind the Audi of Nico Müller.

Loïc Duval rounded off the top ten with the time 1:24.160 for Team Phoenix.

The second free practice starts at 17:10 CEST today.
