Illness forces Jamie Green out of Misano weekend

Audi driver Jamie Green will miss the latest rounds of the DTM season this weekend at Misano after being diagnosed with appendicitis.

The Briton, who sits seventh in the standings on the back of a podium finish last time out at Zolder, fell ill earlier this week and will not be able to compete in Italy, where he will be replaced by Pietro Fittipaldi.

Fittipaldi, who is making his debut in the series this season with Audi customer team WRT, was scheduled to sit out Misano himself because of a clash with his F1 commitments with the Haas team – with MotoGP star Andrea Dovizioso coming in to replace him.

However, Green’s illness has led to Audi calling in Fittpaldi at short notice, with the Brazilian now taking up the drive with Team Rosberg rather than heading to Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix.

“The symptoms appeared all of a sudden during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday,” Head of Audi Motorsport Dieter Gass said. “We all wish Jamie a speedy recovery. He’ll definitely not be fit for racing again this weekend, so we’re happy that Pietro is able to stand in for him on such short notice.

“For us, Pietro is the best solution. He knows the car and showed strong performances in his first two DTM events.”
