Marco Wittmann tops final Misano free practice

BMW driver Marco Wittmann was fastest of the DTM drivers in the second and final free practice session of the weekend at Misano, Italy.

The BMW Team RMG driver set his lap time five minutes into the session with Audi driver Robin Frijns closest behind him, albeit almost three tenths slower.

Philipp Eng claimed the third fastest time and was the final driver to go below 1:27 with a lap time of 1:26.979.

Nico Müller was second fastest of the Audi drivers in fifth position for Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline, with manufacturer colleague Mike Rockenfeller in sixth position, 0.552 seconds from the top spot.

Two South African drivers claimed positions seven and eight, with BMW driver Sheldon van der Linde in seventh and Audi driver Jonathan Aberdein rounding out the top eight.

Jake Dennis was fastest of the R-Motorsport Aston Martin drivers in 13th position with a lap time of 1:28.112.

Andrea Dovizioso, who replaces Pietro Fittipaldi at the WRT Audi Sport customer team, was 16th fastest and had a scare after the chequered flag. The Italian driver spun while lining up for a test start on the main straight and was just barely able to avoid planting the car in the tyre wall.

Next up for the DTM field is qualifying, starting at 10:30 CEST tomorrow.
