Dominik Fugel: “The race was stolen”

Dominik Fugel was left upset after the final TCR Germany championship race at the Nürburgring that was red-flagged due to torrential rainfall, a decision meaning that he dropped from first to tenth.

“Sadly the race was stolen by the stewards after the race,” Fugel wrote on his social accounts.

The Honda driver opted to pit for wet tyres early and was in the lead when the red flags came out, only to be dropped to tenth position when the results were counted back.

“The rain came after three laps and we decided early to change to rain tyres. This was the right decision and I was in the lead when everyone was in the pits,” said Fugel.

“Two hours after the race, the stewards decided to take the results to before the safety car came out. And that means I was in the pits by then, finishing tenth instead. I feel really sorry for the team, they had done a perfect job and a perfect strategy.”

Fugel is currently placed tenth in the standings with a third place at Most as his so far best result.
