Luca Engstler on second title: “It is just unbelievable”

Luca Engstler claimed his second straight TCR Asia series title during the season finale at the Bangsaen circuit in Thailand this weekend.

“I have no words for it yet, it is just unbelievable,” said Engstler. “Now it is official and it is the second time I am the TCR Asia champion and it is amazing.”

The Team Engstler driver secured the title already after the first race of the season finale race and had 25 points more than his team-mate Diego Moran, who won both of the races this weekend. A third place in the final race confirmed the title for the 19-year-old.

“I am more than happy. I think everyone saw that I did not take all of the risk to overtake the two cars in front of me because I knew P3 was enough for me to win the championship,” said Engstler.

The 2019 TCR Asia season has seen Engstler claiming six wins of which five were back-to-back and Team Engstler has claimed the teams’ title as well.

“What can I say but congratulations to Luca, to Diego, to the team and to Hyundai for this fantastic weekend and for this great season in TCR Asia. We will have three back-to-back celebrations tonight,” said team manager Andreas Klinge.
