Mike Rockenfeller tops second free practice as Audi continue domination

Local hero Mike Rockenfeller of Audi Sport Team Phoenix was the fastest driver in the second free practice session at the Nürburgring as Audi once again dominated, claiming the top six positions.

Rockenfeller set a best lap time of 1:20.521, only 0.038 seconds faster than WRT driver Jonathan Aberdein, with Team Abt Sportsline’s Robin Frijns in third place, 0.054 seconds behind.

Frijns’s team-mate Nico Müller was fourth, just a further four-thousandths of a second behind, with Team Rosberg’s René Rast, who was fastest in the first session, in fifth. Loïc Duval claimed sixth position, 0.186 seconds behind his team-mate.

BMW Team RMG’s Marco Wittmann was the first non-Audi driver in the classification in seventh place, only one-thousandth behind Duval, with Team Rosberg’s Jamie Green in eighth place, albeit four-tenths off the pace.

Pietro Fittipaldi was ninth for WRT with BMW Team RBM’s Philipp Eng completing the top ten, 0.540 seconds behind Rockenfeller. Paul di Resta was again the fastest driver for R-Motorsport in twelfth position, seven-tenths off the pace.

R-Motorsport’s Ferdinand Habsburg lost a door coming out of Turn 8 ten minutes into the session, but the debris could be recovered without an interruption of the session. Not long after, BMW Team RMG’s Timo Glock spun off at Turn 1 and was able to recover and return to the track under his own power.

The DTM continues Saturday morning at 10:50 CEST with the qualifying session for Race 1.
