DTM evaluating further calendar changes and Esport project

DTM promoter ITR is currently looking into how the recent restrictions on public events in Germany and Belgium will impact its planned 2020 calendar, also confirming plans for an Esport project for the lockdown months.

“The health and safety of the public remains our highest priority during this epidemic,” an ITR spokesman to TouringCarTimes.

”It goes without saying that we will fully comply with all appropriate government and state health recommendations as we look to plan and stage future DTM events.”

“The DTM has always been a hugely customer-centric series, and it remains our goal to return to the racetrack to give fans more memorable and thrilling experiences as soon as possible – but only once it is safe and responsible to do so.”

The ITR is currently monitoring the continuously changing situation of the pandemic and will wait to issue further changes to the calendar.

“We are engaged in a series of talks with all our local event partners, discussing the impact and effect of national restrictions on public and sporting events. Once the situation becomes clearer, we will update the public with more news,” said the ITR spokesman.

Asked whether the DTM is considering an Esport series for the lockdown period, as done by several other touring car championships, the ITR spokesman added: “We’re in development of our own project but we can’t give any details at this point.”
