BMW Motorsport showcase liveries for 2020 DTM season

BMW Motorsport has unveiled the liveries of the six works BMW M4 DTMs that will feature on this year’s DTM grid, with drivers Marco Wittmann, Timo Glock, Philipp Eng and Sheldon van der Linde, as well as the new arrivals of Lucas Auer and Jonathan Aberdein.

Teams RMG and RBM will again be the official squads for BMW in the DTM, with their line-ups almost unchanged from last season.

“We are very happy to have our strong partners at our side, even in difficult times like these,” said BMW Group Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt.

“The corona pandemic also put the brakes on the DTM, and when the season can finally start, it will be under different conditions than we are used to. That is why we are all the more grateful for the loyalty and ongoing support of our partners. It shows once again that we are one team, we stand together and we fight together for success.

“The modified DTM calendar makes us look forward to the start of the season even more. Together with our partners, we are ready to give everything in the 2020 season.”

BMW Team RMG will manage the BMW M4 DTMs for Marco Wittmann, Timo Glock and series returnee Lucas Auer, who replaces former DTM champion Bruno Spengler.

Auer, who will sport the BMW Bank livery, said: “The black machine looks amazing, the ‘black beast’ has won so many trophies and races, and I will do everything to bring more to Munich.

“I’m very happy and very proud to be back in the DTM and I’m looking forward to getting going. For me, it was important to keep in touch with the team as I’m new to the brand, so I tried to keep in touch every week, specially as I wasn’t in DTM last year.”

Wittmann, who will carry the green and white livery from Schaeffler for the second consecutive season, added: “The green machine is looking great, we are in quite a unique moment as Schaeffler is just ten minutes away from home.

“P3 last year was not too bad, but there are two places to claim and that would be the target for this year, to finish in P1 at the end of the season. It has been important to keep the social contact with the team and the engineers during this time.”

Glock will carry the yellow and orange colours from BMW’s new partner iqoo: “I’m not sure if we should call it the yellow beast, but rather the yellow monster. It has a lot of potential inside and maybe we could ask the fans what we should call it.

“I’m just forgetting last year and concentrating on this season. I’ve had a lot of skype and WhatsApp messages trying to stay in contact with the engineers and keeping up with the updates.

Team RBM will again manage Philipp Eng’s and Sheldon van der Linde’s cars, as well as newly signed Jonathan Aberdein’s car.

Eng, who scored his maiden win in the series last year, will continue driving the blue M4 DTM from ZF, affirmed: “It’s great to be with ZF again, it’s been a tough time, but getting the DTM season going in this format is super-cool. The car looks the best if we are on the top step of the podium and that’s the target for this year again.

“I’m in contact with my team and my crew on a daily basis preparing for the season and I can’t wait to be with my team again.”

Van der Linde, who recently moved to Germany to be closer to the team, will have the Shell livery on his car for the second season in a row and is looking forward to his second season in the series: “We started super strong last year, I had a lot of potential, so I’m happy to be back with Shell and I’m looking forward to bringing out all the power the car has and make it as fast as it looks.”

Aberdein, who arrives to BMW after a successful maiden season with Audi’s customer team WRT, will carry the blue and white livery from CATL: “The decision to join BMW was quite an obvious one, BMW is one of the greatest brands in motorsport and there was no doubt I wanted to be a part of them.

“I saw the BMWs on track last year and I’m looking forward to getting my hands on one of them and pushing it to the limit.”

The DTM will return to the track next week at the Nürburgring for the official pre-season on June 8-12th.
