Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky and Tobias Brink in vice-champion fight at Knutstorp

Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky could become the first female driver to finish in the top three of the STCC TCR Scandinavia standings as she goes head to head with Tobias Brink in the fight for the vice-champion title during the season finale at Knutstorp this weekend.

The PWR Racing driver, whose team-mate Robert Dahlgren claimed the title during the last race weekend, strengthened her position as second in the championship following her maiden win of 2021 at Mantorp Park.

She is currently eleven points ahead of Brink.

“To goal is crystal clear ahead of the finale and that is to secure second place overall. And the plan is the same as each weekend, to score as much points as possible. The win at Mantorp is of course something that boosts us ahead of the challenge,” said Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky.

While Brink failed to get ahead of Åhlin-Kottulinsky at Mantorp, the Audi driver has consistently improved his results in the last part of the season.

“It has been a frustrating season, especially with the technical issues our supplier of dampers has caused us. But we are fully charged ahead of the finale to hit back and claim the runner-up spot,” said Brink.

But the duo is not alone in having a chance to clinch the runner-up spot as Lestrup Racing Team driver Oliver Söderström, currently placed fourth, is within reach as well, 27 points behind the Cupra driver.

“I’m heading to Knutstorp aiming for the junior title, as well as climbing into the top three of the overall standings. I definitely think we can challenge for the race wins at Knutstorp, a circuit that I really like,” said Söderström.

The STCC season finale starts on Friday with testing and qualifying, with the three final races of 2021 held on Saturday.
