Dan Kirby to make TCR UK return in Cupra

Dan Kirby has confirmed that he will return to the TCR UK series this season on the back of a successful test at Donington Park last week.

Although he didn’t appear on TSL’s official timing sheets, Kirby hit the track during the official season launch test at the wheel of a Cupra Leon Competición TCR run by the Zest Racecar Engineering team and has now agreed a deal that will see him partner ex-BTCC racer Carl Boardley.

Kirby drove the previous generation of Cupra during his part campaign in 2020 and again for a full year in 2021, where he secured a maiden victory on home soil at Brands Hatch en-route to third in the standings behind Lewis Kent and Bruce Winfield.

This weekend’s season opener at Snetterton will mark Kirby’s return to action after a break to focus on his various business commitments, with hopes high of launching a bid for title honours.

“I’m delighted to be back for another season in TCR UK,” he said. “Having sat out of motorsport for the last 18 months, I’m keen to start where I left off and hopefully be in the championship hunt come the end of the season.

“TCR UK has come on strong attracting some top drivers and teams, and is a real credit to the organisers and I’m under no illusions how stiff the competition is for this coming season. Huge thanks go to Zest Racecar Engineering, who have worked hard to make the deal happen. I can’t wait to get going at Snetterton.”
