Dan Cammish reigns supreme in second Donington Park contest

Dan Cammish secured his second win of the season in the British Touring Car Championship after producing a commanding performance in race two at Donington Park.

Starting from fourth and on the preferred medium tyre, the Alliance Racing driver scythed his way to the front of the field to triumph ahead points leader Ash Sutton and reigning champion Tom Ingram.

Race one winner Adam Morgan – along with Sutton and Gordon Shedden – were forced to run the hard tyre and as the lights went out, Morgan’s time at the front was short-lived as Sutton muscled his way into first as they plunged down the Craner Curves.

Despite being on the inferior tyre, four-time champion Sutton held his own out front however his mirrors soon became filled by his Ford Focus Titanium team-mate Cammish and the CPRL Mercedes of Dan Rowbottom.

Rowbottom initially found a way past Sutton to hit the front but with Cammish quickly following him through, the battle was on for victory.

Dicing over the next few laps, the decisive move for the lead came at the end of lap six as slight contact between Cammish and the rear of Rowbottom’s machine at Goddards allowed him to take the lead. From there, he didn’t look back.

Rowbottom’s race continued however he encountered further drama exiting the chicane where his front-wheel-drive machine slowed momentary, which in-turn allowed Sutton to clinch second place and secure an 1-2 for the reigning Teams’ champions.

Ingram got baulked behind Rowbottom but the Hyundai driver finally moved past into third in the closing stages. Rowbottom would secure fourth ahead of the charging Ricky Collard and Dexter Patterson, who was the lead Independent.

Completing the top ten was Aron Taylor-Smith, Aiden Moffat, race one winner Morgan and Chris Smiley – who will start the weekend’s third and final contest from pole position.
