Bamboo Engineering could be down to just one car at the WTCC’s first visit to the USA next month, with just Alex MacDowall currently set to take part in the race for the independent Chevrolet team.
The regular driver of the #12 Chevrolet Cruze, Pasquale Di Sabatino, is understood to be unable to make the next race at Sonoma Raceway, California, which leaves the car vacant unless the team is able to field another driver.
Last month in Brazil, Scandinavian Touring Car Championship driver Michel Nykjaer stepped in at the last minute, flying out the night before and went on to qualify fourth on the grid, and went on to take two fifth place finishes as well as an independents’ trophy victory in the team’s Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T.
The Silverstone-based team competes with two Chevrolet Cruze 1.6Ts in the 2012 WTCC, which are run to the same specification as the Championship leading works Chevrolets driven by Yvan Muller, Alain Menu and Rob Huff.
