Chevrolet Motorsport Sweden plans to enter Asian rounds

Recently crowned STCC teams’ champion Chevrolet Motorsport Sweden intend to enter up to two cars in the final three rounds of this year’s WTCC.

The team competed in the opening race of 2012 at Monza with Rickard Rydell, shortly before the start of the STCC season. Rydell qualified in fourth and in the two races finished fourth and tenth, though the team wasn’t eligible to score points in the independents’ trophy due to Rydell’s WTCC experience.

“We are looking to do the last three rounds,” said Chevrolet Motorsport Sweden Team Principal Nicklas Karlsson to TouringCarTimes. “We have one driver really close to signing up and we have one more car available (in which) maybe we’ll run Rickard or Michel (Nykjaer). Of course the WTCC is the Championship that everybody would like to be involved in, I think it’s good Honda’s coming back strong which is good for the series.”

The team has competed twice prior to this season in the WTCC, running a fourth car for Belgian driver Vincent Radermecker and Argentinean Leonel Pernía in the 2010 season for one race each.
