Mariano Altuna takes pole in first race for Peugeot

31-year-old Mariano Altuna has grabbed pole position at the Buenos Aires street race for the first round of the 2013 Argentinian Super TC 2000 Championship, on his first appearance for the Peugeot Lo Jack Team.

Altuna was half a second clear of his nearest rival, the Equipo Petronas Fiat Linea of reigning champion José María López, with López’s Fiat team-mate Facundo Ardusso in third just 12-thousandths of a second behind.

Altuna’s team-mate Néstor Girolami was fourth quickest in his Peugeot 408, with Leonel Pernía the fastest of the Renault Fluences in fifth.

Christian Ledesma was the fastest of the Equipo Honda Petrobras drivers on his first weekend with the Honda team, qualifying in seventh overall, with 2011 champion Matías Rossi the only driver from Toyota Team Argentina in the top ten in ninth.

The Buenos Aires street race gets underway at 13:00 ART on Sunday.
