Yvan Muller leads the way in second practice at the Hungaroring

RML Chevrolet driver Yvan Muller was fastest of all in the final practice session before this afternoon’s qualifying session, finishing ahead of team-mate Tom Chilton and bamboo-engineering driver James Nash, with Chevrolets filling out the top three spots.

Home hero Norbert Michelisz held first place throughout the first 20 minutes of the session, but then the RML Chevrolets took over, with first Tom Chilton going fastest, soon followed by Yvan Muller, setting the best time of the session of 1:54.704.

Muller’s time was not faster than Honda’s Gabriele Tarquini’s from the first session, set in cooler conditions at the track temperature continued to rise.

James Nash in the bamboo-engineering Chevrolet strung together a lap time of 1:54.934 to go third fastest and the best placed of the Yokohama Trophy drivers, with reigning champion Rob Huff the best placed SEAT in fourth, just three-thousandths of a second behind.

Norbert Michelisz ended up fifth fastest and the top Honda driver, with Tom Coronel’s ROAL Motorsport BMW the top of the German manufacturer’s cars in sixth position.

Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro were joint seventh fastest courtesy of setting the same time of 1:55.547, whilst improved pace from Lada saw James Thompson end the session in ninth, up from 22nd fastest this morning.

A number of drivers were warned for exceeding the track limits at Turn 4, including STR’s Tom Boardman, Tuenti Racing’s Pepe Oriola, and the two Campos Racingd drivers Hugo Valente and Fernando Monje. PB Racing driver Stefano D’Aste was black flagged for consistently running wide, the second driver today to do so after Charles Ng was similarly penalised in FP1.

Qualifying takes place at 14:30 CET.
