Engstler and Tarquini released from hospital

Franz Engstler and Gabriele Tarquini have both been released from hospital following a heavy crash on the first lap of the second WTCC race in Hungary.

Honda driver Gabriele Tarquini spun off into the tyre barriers on the outside of Turn 2 after running across the nose of Yvan Muller’s Chevrolet, and bounced back onto the track, hitting the rear of Norbert Michelisz’s Honda and was then collected by Franz Engstler’s BMW 320 TC.

The safety car was then brought out whilst Tarquini received medical attention trackside for a neck complaint, and then both drivers were sent to the military hospital in nearby Budapest.

They’ve now both been released from hospital with just bruises and pains to the neck and chest confirmed and no broken bones.
