José María López claims pole for Fiat at San Juan
Equipo Petronas Fiat driver José María López has claimed pole position for the third round of the Argentinian Super TC 2000 Championship at San Juan. The reigning champion claimed pole just 23-thousandths of a second ahead of Toyota Team Argentina’s Matías Rossi.
Setting the third fastest time was Peugeot Lo Jack Team’s Néstor Girolami, with Bernando Llaver the second fastest of the Toyota drivers in fourth.
Mariano Werner made it three Toyotas in the top five, whilst Leonel Pernía was the top placed of the Renault Lo Jack Team, setting the sixth fastest time just under four-tenths of a second down on López’s time in Q3.
t
Agustín Canapino qualified his Chevrolet Cruze in seventh, with the two Equipo Petrobras Honda Civics of Ricardo Risatti and Christian Ledesma eighth and ninth fastest.
Rounding out the top ten was Guillermo Ortelli in his Renault Fluence.
Although López’s time in Q3 was good enough to give the Fiat driver pole, it was not the quickest time of the session, with Néstor Girolami setting a time of 1:10.797 to go fastest in Q2 in his Peugeot 408.
The top eight drivers will take part in the Super 8 race format on Sunday morning to determine the final grid for the race, which begins at 13:00 local time on Sunday 12th May.
