No penalty for race two incident between Coronel & Tarquini

The stewards have deemed that no penalty is required for the incident involving Gabriele Tarquini’s Honda and Tom Coronel’s ROAL BMW in race two at Moscow which saw the Lada of James Thompson taken out of the race.

The stewards investigated all three drivers as well as RML’s Yvan Muller for the incident, with all four cars plus Rob Huff’s Münnich Motorsport SEAT battling for third place at the end of lap three, which saw Tarquini’s Honda sandwiched between Coronel’s BMW and Thompson’s Lada.

Coronel then ran across the nose of Tarquini’s car which propelled the Dutchman into Thompson’s Lada, eliminating the Englishman from the race and dropping Coronel down the order.

The stewards’ review of the contact, assisted by driving standards advisor John Cleland this weekend, deemed the accident was a racing incident and required no further action.

Tarquini though was separately investigated for the incident with Pepe Oriola on the first lap, for which the Italian was given an official reprimand by the stewards.
