Hugo Valente punished for Engstler race one incident

Campos Racing’s Hugo Valente was given a 30 second penalty in race one and a ten place grid drop at the next race for an incident which saw him make contact with Franz Engstler’s BMW and then saw the German make contact with a recovery tow truck.

Valente was punished for not respecting yellow flags which were out as the recovery vehicle was on track and heading to Turn 13, where Gabriele Tarquini’s Honda was out of the race after a turbocharger problem.

The cars ahead of Valente and Engstler all checked up and Valente ran into the back of Engstler’s BMW 320 TC, propelling it into the truck.

Engstler’s car sustained heavy damage to the front and rear and was forced out of parc ferme and had to start from the back of the grid for race two.

The investigation wasn’t concluded until after race two, so Valente’s grid penalty applies at the next round which is scheduled to be the Argentinian race in August.
