Seven drivers under investigation for Q2 rules breach

Just as at the Salzburgring in May, seven drivers are under investigation by the stewards at Termas de Río Hondo for their behaviour in qualifying today when they slowed down in Q2 in order to position themselves for their final run in qualifying, which impeded José María López’s BMW.

The stewards have summoned pole-sitter Yvan Muller, Tom Chilton, Alex MacDowall, Pepe Oriola, James Nash, Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro with the results of qualifying to remain provisional until the investigation is completed.

At the Salzburgring, the drivers were hit with ranging fines and grid penalties when they were found guilty of driving erratically in the qualifying session, on that occasion as Tom Chilton led the pack at a snail’s crawl around the circuit and hit the chequered flag before completing a lap.
