Nika Racing still working on a 2014 WTCC entry

Swedish team Nika Racing is still working on a programme to continue to compete in the FIA World Touring Car Championship in the 2014 season.

The team was jointly leading the Yokohama Drivers’ Trophy with Michel Nykjaer in 2013, and was third in the overall drivers’ standings, before replacing him for the final three rounds of the season due to budget reasons, fielding Hiroki Yoshimoto, Yukinori Taniguchi and 2011 STCC champion Rickard Rydell in the final three meetings.

“Our goal is and has always been to take advantage of the investment we did last year and to build on a long-term platform for us to be a part of the WTCC,” said team manager Nicklas Karlsson to TouringCarTimes.

“Our purpose with our 2013 programme was to learn and develop the team. We were very pleased with what the team achieved during the first year and the results with Nykjaer was evidence that we were on the right track in our way of working,” said Karlsson.

The team has been reported to be investigating options to purchase a new TC1 class car for the 2014 season, but Karlsson is secretive on this so far.
“We hope to be able to present our plans for the future shortly,” said Karlsson.
