Münnich Motorsport to run Chevys for Münnich and Morbidelli
Münnich Motorsport have been confirmed as the final two owners of RML’s new Chevrolet Cruzes for the 2014 FIA World Touring Car Championship season. Team principal René Münnich and two-time International Superstars Series champion Gianni Morbidelli will drive the cars.
The team will go into their second season, after running three SEAT León WTCCs last season, with Rob Huff winning two races on his way to fifth in the drivers’ championship.
“I received a last minute offer to buy them, and could not drop the opportunity,” said Münnich. “We are eager to benefit from the experience we won last year and are very much looking forward to the new season.”
“For me it is only the second year in WTCC and circuit racing. Last year everything was new to me, not only the tracks, but the art of driving as well. I hope I will be able to handle the Chevrolet quite well. I think top-ten results should be my goal this season.”
Joining the team is Gianni Morbidelli, who last raced in the WTCC in 2006 with N.Technology. The 46-year-old Italian former Formula 1 driver joins the team fresh from winning the final year of the International Superstars Series.
“I am really excited by the idea of rejoining WTCC and working together with René Münnich and his team. They did a great job last year on their maiden season,” said Morbidelli.
