Campos Racing officially withdraw Pepe Oriola from Macau

Pepe Oriola will miss his opportunity to make a final outing in the FIA World Touring Car Championship, following damage sustained to his Campos Racing Chevrolet Cruze in the qualifying session at Macau.

As reported yesterday, it was almost certain that Oriola’s car was beyond repair, after the team sustained damage in three consecutive sessions, with Hugo Valente crashing out at Paiol in Free Practice 1 on Thursday, and then with Pepe Oriola going off the same corner on Friday morning.

Oriola then crashed again at Maternity at the start of qualifying, and with the Campos Racing team short on spares for the two Chevrolet RML Cruzes this weekend, the team have been forced to withdraw the #74 car, which has been raced by Dusan Borkovic so far this season.

On a positive note, the #7 Chevrolet of Hugo Valente is set to start the second race from pole position, with the team able to focus their efforts on the 22-year-old Frenchman’s car, as well as their three SEAT Leóns in the TC2T category.
