Mehdi Bennani could be set for a surprise Citroën switch

Moroccan driver Mehdi Bennani is evaluating a number of options after his best season in the FIA World Touring Car Championship to-date, taking his first career win and the first for the independent Proteam Racing squad at Shanghai last month, with one of the potential options believed to be a switch to Citroën, driving for Sébastien Loeb Racing.

Bennani finished the 2014 season in 11th in the drivers’ standings, finishing on the podium in Moscow, and holding off the factory Honda of Tiago Monteiro at the Shanghai International Circuit to take his first career win after a few lost opportunities over the years, most famously at Budapest in 2013 when he fought off then Münnich Motorsport driver Rob Huff for the majority of the race.

“We’re still working on (next year), and we’ve received some good proposals,” said Bennani to ToruingCarTimes. “For me, I hope to be in this championship next year, we’re fighting against the best drivers in the world and it now looks very professional. I hope to be here and hopefully I’ll have some news soon,” added Bennani, not being drawn on the rumours.
