Dusan Borkovic set to confirm his 2015 plans next month

Serbia’s Dusan Borkovic expects to announce his plans for the 2015 FIA World Touring Car Championship season next month, with the 30-year-old in the final stages of finalising his programme for his second season in the Championship, which could involve a switch to Honda.

Borkovic, who took his best result of the season at his final race in Suzuka with second in a Campos Racing Chevrolet, before an arm injury sidelined him for the Macau finale, announced his plans at a press conference in his home country earlier today. Borkovic, who raced under the NIS Petrol Racing banner in the 2013 European Touring Car Cup with Campos Racing, and again last season in the WTCC, will race in 2015 with additional support from the Serbian Automobile Association and AMS Insurance, reports Serbiaring.

“I thank the Automobile Association, which really helps motorsport and who recognized how important this project is for Serbia,” said Borkovic. “I expect in my second WTCC season I will achieve much better results…in my debut year I reached the podium at Suzuka, so in 2015, I can promise at least two podiums,” he said.

It has been recently reported in the Serbian press that Borkovic could be set for a Honda switch, taking the place of Mehdi Bennani at Proteam, with the Moroccan bound for Sébastien Loeb’s satellite programme with Citroën, but Borkovic clarified that he’s maintaining all options at the moment.

“My sentence might have been a little misunderstood,” explained Borkovic. “I actually said that I would love to drive a ‘Honda’. As it stands I am negotiating with all possible teams, discussions are ongoing and have different offers. The final decision should be known and published in mid-January.

“The Honda is faster on slower corners and in general, the slower tracks…plus, I think the Civic is absolutely the fastest car at the start of the race,” he added. “On the other hand, the Cruze has its advantages on long straights and fast tracks, primarily because of its saloon shape. In any case, thanks to the knowledge of the company RML, they shouldn’t lag behind the others in development.”

Much like in 2014, Borkovic will most likely start the year without the full budget required to complete the season, but will chase funds to complete the campaign as he did this year.
