Campos drivers penalties overturned, Hugo Valente gets front row start

The FIA stewards have reviewed their decisions to give five-place grid penalties to the Campos Chevrolet pair Hugo Valente and John Filippi following new evidence submitted by the team. This decision means Filippi will start both races from 13th on the grid, and more crucially Valente from outside of the front row alongside Yvan Muller, after achieving his career-best qualifying result today at the Hungaroring.

The stewards reviewed the new information under Article 13.10 of the International Sporting Code, and ruled that the information was both a new element that was not available when the original decision was made, and that it was relevant.

“There were eight drivers that improve their times, while only Filippi and I got penalties. So either we all get penalties, or we don’t,” said Valente to TouringCarTimes following qualifying.

In light of the new evidence, the stewards have cancelled Decisions 6 & 7 made earlier today which gave five-place penalties to Valente and Filippi for improving their times under the yellow flags in Free Practice 1.
