No action taken on López/Monteiro incident at Paul Ricard

The stewards have decided no action is warranted on the incident which took place on lap seven during race two at Paul Ricard, after Citroën driver José María López and Honda’s Tiago Monteiro came together whilst battling for second, with Monteiro eliminated from the race and López going on to take his fifth win of the season,

The Portuguese driver was furious with López following the race , believing the reigning world champion was able to get out of the manoeuvre and could have avoided contact.

López however stated he doesn’t feel guilty for the incident, and that Monteiro came across onto his line.

The stewards decided no further action was warranted, and stated that they “do not believe either driver were wholly or predominantly to blame for the action.”

López therefore retains the win and extends his points lead over Muller to 39 points. Monteiro is still fourth in the standings, but leads a close-knit group with Citroën’s Ma Qing Hua just one point behind in fifth, Zengo’s Norbert Michelisz a further point behind Ma and Honda team-mate Gabriele Tarquini just a further two behind Michelisz.
