Citroën decision on continuation in the WTCC due in two weeks

Citroën will decide within the next two weeks whether it will continue in either the World Rally Championship or World Touring Car Championship from 2017 onwards.

The twice-drivers and manufacturers’ champion have been given a directive to focus on just one motorsport programme from 2017 onwards from PSA Peugeot-Citroën’s head office, along with sister marque Peugeot. The decision is set to be one made based on commercial targets and cost efficiency for the French manufacturer.

“In the two following weeks the decisions will be taken, with the first about our plans for 2017 I think,” said Citroën Racing team principal Yves Matton to wrc.com during the Wales Rally GB last weekend.

Citroën have also yet to confirm any of their drivers in either the WTCC or WRC for 2016. 2014 and 2015 champion José María López has already confirmed negotiations are ongoing, while four-time champion Yvan Muller has previously confirmed to TouringCarTimes he will make his decision after the end of the season.

Sébastien Loeb meanwhile is expected to stay with Citroën in the WTCC in 2016, while simultaneously running his own programme, which could expand to three cars. Loeb’s team presently runs two cars for Morocco’s Mehdi Bennani and China’s Ma Qing Hua.
