Yvan Muller targeting fifth title tilt in Citroën’s final year

Yvan Muller says his motivation to sign with Citroën for the 2016 season is fully to challenge for the drivers’ title against team-mate José María López in the French manaufacturer’s final season in the WTCC,

Muller and López will be the only two drivers fielded by Citroën for 2016, paired since the manufacturer entered the championship in 2014, with the team reduced to two cars after Sébastien Loeb was released from the programme due to his Peugeot cross-country commitments.

Yvan Muller, the champion in 2008 with SEAT and in 2010, ’11 and ’13 with Chevrolet, says it’s the challenge of a fifth title that’s his motivation to continue with Citroën for next year.

“If I would not have that in my mind I would not re-sign the contract, so of course I am motivated on that,” said Muller.

“But José is a fast driver, he’s full of confidence and for the last two years he’s the best driver of the championship so it will be tough, but I want to try to take the challenge until the end.”
