Yvan Muller tops morning test session

Yvan Muller was quickest in this morning’s test at Vallelunga, Italy. All lap times were set in the first session, as rain began to fall on the track during the FIA European Formula 3 test.

The Citroën driver set the pace with a 1:37.730, eight tenths quicker than Polestar Cyan Racing’s Thed Björk in the new S60 TC1. Sébastien Loeb Racing’s Mehdi Bennani came third a further half a second off in his Citroën C-Elysée, with Fredrik Ekblom fourth in the second S60.

Honda driver Norbert Michelisz came home fifth ahead of Grégoire Demoustier in his first outing with SLR’s Citroën, a couple of tenths quicker than team-mate Tom Chilton. René Münnich came eighth in his All-Inkl.com Racing Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1.

The second session was wet, with all drivers running on wet tyres. Once again Yvan Muller emerged as the fastest man on track. An off from Demoustier caused a brief red flag.

Testing will resume this afternoon after the lunch break.
