27 cars entered for the 2016 Super TC 2000 Championship

The 2016 Argentinian Super TC 2000 Championship gets underway this weekend at Trelew with a bumper entry, with a number of keys moves during the off season.

2014-2015 champion Néstor Girolami doesn’t return this year, instead opting to compete in the Brazilian Stock Car Championship, after plans to join former champion José María López in the World Touring Car Championship didn’t materialise.

His former team-mate and close rival Agustín Canapino has also moved teams, returning to Chevrolet, which fields a five-car line-up this year, while Peugeot will field three cars under the Peugeot Total banner, one for former junior driver Damian Fineschi, one for the returning Fabian Yannantuoni, and also signing regular front-runner Mariano Werner, who returns to a factory squad after a year as a privateer, carrying the number 0.

Not to be outdone by Chevrolet, Renault are fielding a six car team for 2016, with nearly champion Leonel Pernía joined by Facundo Ardusso, Emiliano Spataro, Christian Ledesma, Ignacio Julían and Germán Sirvent at the team.

Fiat return with a three car factory team with only José Manuel Urcera remaining after Ardusso moved to Renault and Chapur left the championship, with Carlos Javier Merlo and Bernardo Llaver his new team-mates.

Escuderia FE will run a four-car privateer programme for Peugeot with drivers Lucas Colombo Russell, Lucas Benamo, Javier Manta and Luciano Farroni, while Riva Racing’s Franco Riva and M&M Group’s Bruno Etman are standalone privateer entries in a Peugeot and Fiat respectively.

The cars will first take to the track at midday on Friday 18th March at the Autódromo Mar y Valle de Trelew.
