Esteban Guerrieri ”really confident” ahead of WTCC debut

Esteban Guerrieri will make his FIA World Touring Car Championship debut in Argentina in two weeks and says he is confident ahead of the races.

“My intention would be to sign for a top team which I could battle for the win, but those are the factory ones. For a one-race shot, it must be a private entry. Anyway, this car did well, so I’m really confident,” said Guerrieri to TouringCarTimes.

The pressure is on the Argentinian following the success of his countryman José María López in the championship.

“It’s a pleasure to represent my country again at international level. I’m very thankful to the Argentine Automobile Club, the Ministry of Tourism and Santiago del Estero Government. I’m proud to follow Pechito’s steps; he’s done a superb job in WTCC, he’s opened up new doors for our country’s drivers. I will give my best to raise our flag as high as possible,” said Guerrieri.

Guerrieri has prepared himself with onboard videos and speaking to Néstor Girolami who drove for Nika Racing last year at Circuito Termas de Río Hondo.

“I’ve been watching some onboard cameras and had a good chat with Néstor Girolami. My closest reference is Super TC 2000, which does slightly faster lap times. It’s important to be careful when handling grip and horsepower when the engine turns the turbo on,” said Guerrieri.

In terms of expectations for the WTCC weekend, the Argentinian is hoping to be on the reversed grid front row.

“My aim is to qualify in the Top 10, in order to start on the first row in the opening race. I’m really happy to represent Argentina in a World Championship, with some top drivers. The teams’ and drivers’ level is magnificent, so I want to give my best to bring out the most of this chance,” said Guerrieri.
