Runner-up spot ‘doesn’t really matter’ for Yvan Muller

Yvan Muller was left disappointed after a mistake in qualifying left him wondering what could have been had he qualified higher up the order at Termas de Río Hondo, Argentina. The Citroën driver went no further than fourth due to an error in the third sector, and going from there the weekend took the wrong turn for the Frenchman.

“It wasn’t a good weekend for me,” admitted Muller. “I had the car to win pole position, but I made a little mistake and that shaped the rest of my weekend. I got two good starts today. In the opening race, I was able to secure a podium place.”

The contact with Honda’s Norbert Michelisz ruined any chances of a Citroën 1-2 as Muller visited the gravel and lost a few places: “I was in line for another good result in the second race, but Michelisz ran into me and that cost me second place.”

Rather than focusing on what he still reckons will be an interesting battle for second in the championship, Muller is more focused on bringing home points for the team: “The battle for the Championship runner-up spot will be interesting, but it doesn’t really matter to me. What gives me real satisfaction is having scored important points for Citroën.”
