Agustín Canapino celebrates title with win in Córdoba

YPF Chevrolet driver Agustín Canapino won the last round of the Argentine Super TC2000 championship in Córdoba, after securing the title yesterday. He was followed by Renault Sport’s Leonel Pernía and Fiat Petronas’ Carlos Javier Merlo on the podium.

“Leonel was quicker than me, I had to block his attacks, but luckily I had a great car to defend my position. I must thank to my team and my family for this,” said Canapino.

Canapino held Pernía back in the start, as Christian Ledesma of Renault Sport kept third place ahead of both factory Fiat drivers Javier Merlo and José Manuel Urcera.

Esteban Guerrieri spun off track in his final race for Toyota Team Argentina and dropped to thirteenth position early in the race. Ledesma spun off track on lap 26 after a blown tyre and retired, allowing Merlo to move up to third.

As the race neared the end, Pernía closed the gap in his Renault and started challenging on Canapino for the lead. Despite a strong pace, Pernía could never represent a too serious threat to Canapino’s lead.

The Chevrolet driver celebrated his title in style winning his fourth race in the season (Buenos Aires, Santa Fe double header and the last round), followed by Pernía and Merlo in the podium.

Werner finished in fourth, ahead of Ardusso in fifth. Matías Rossi crossed the line in sixth in his factory Toyota Corolla and grabbed the runner-up spot, followed by Urcera.

Ignacio Julián (Renault Sport), Matías Milla (Toyota Team Argentina) and Norberto Fontana (YPF Chevrolet) rounded off the top ten.
