More points for MAC3 in the 2017 WTCC season

The World Touring Car Championship’s Manufacturers’ Against the Clock time-trial event will count for more points in 2016, following its introduction in 2016.

The event, which immediately follows qualifying and involves the manufacturers entered in the championship sending three cars out to take part in a two-lap race, where the best combined time by each trio is considered the winner, will continue in 2017, with a revised points structure.

In 2016, the winning manufacturer scored ten points towards their tally, with eight for second position and six for third, while those who didn’t take part or failed to finish didn’t score at all.

From 2017, 12 points will be awarded to the winner, and eight for second position.

With Citroën and Lada having withdrawn from the 2017 season, Honda will have the most experience of the format next year. The Japanese marque will be joined by Volvo, who will now be eligible as they expand to three cars, making MAC3 a two-manufacturer event.
